Design Tips

Line Widths

Positive Print: Minimum line width should be no smaller than .5 point.

Reverse Print: Minimum line width should be no smaller than .7 point.

Inset Area

The distance between the copy and the edge of the label should be a minimum of .050 on all sides.

Font Problems

Before sending art via e-mail or saving a copy of your art to disk for another person for processing, it is always a good idea to convert the fonts to graphics. In Adobe Illustrator it's called "Create Outlines", in Corel Draw "Convert to Curves". This avoids any font conversion that occurs when the recipient does not have the same fonts as you.

Bitmaps

Try not to use bitmap images for your art or in your art. Image quality can be very poor and unreadable.

Special Symbols

In many cases we get art that contains "™", "©", "®", etc., that are unreadable because they are too small. If these symbols need to be readable, make sure they are big enough to be legible. Make sure these symbols are converted to graphics before sending the art.

Paragraph Text

In flexography printing it is necessary to distort images to compensate for the curve of the print cylinders. Paragraph text boxes only distort the text box and not the text itself. This can result in missing or partially cut text.
